Well, hello.
I am starting this blog because I found a gap in the South African market of beauty reviews. And, I'm not talking about influencer reviews- but solid individual product reviews about products that I am and have tried.
I would buy a product and as soon as I got home I'd Google it- to see what everyone thinks of it. And all I would find is links to buy it and no reviews on those pages.
So, this is for you- the me that searches up products and finds nothing :') I don't plan on sharing the links to these- like, 'hey check out my new posts' but, if and when you get here, note that I simply had to share my findings and I am glad that you made it.
Most of the products I intend on sharing are products found at Dischem and Clicks- that we happen to pick up while browsing. Sometimes expensive products (more than R200), but mostly affordable. I am a student, and I recently got a job- boy has it been fun to buy myself gifts.
The first product I would like to chat about is skincare. Specifically, a new-ish range by Nivea called Daily Essentials 1 Minute Detox Masks. There are two so far in the range. Now let me tell you, I picked up this product because I was bombarded by adverts on Youtube and well, 1 minute is the catch. Like a flash mask before makeup.
So, the first one I tried was the 'Moisture' version. This mask is intended to be a 1 minute mask, as labelled. But on the back it says 'massage any remaining product gent;y into the skin' which translated to 'leave-on mask' and it peaked my interest like never before, because I love to slap on a face mask and go to sleep. I let it settle a little and then rub it in, making sure to let it smear all over my pillowcase. Haha. Ps: 75ml in a bottle.
I tried it on my Mother once and she liked it, but she said it burned on her upperlip, but she had just had a wax done- so I'm assuming it ain't good if your skin is newly waxed.
This one claims to have Green Tea and Hyaluronic Acid. In the ingredient list, I found Camellia Sinensis which I am assuming is the tea. And although I dislike products with fragrance- this one is extremely pleasant and is listed last, which means it is really minimal.
How I use it is - I apply a layer after my skincare routine. ie: toner, serum, moisturizer and then the mask. After a few minutes, I rub it in and then well, my cat's hairs get stuck on my face and I itch it! Haha.
In the morning, I am a hydrated puppy. A quick face wash with only water then moisturizer and you're away. Is there anything less high maintenance than this?
I've heard that the normal Nivea blue tin cream is a dupe for La Mer Creme and I am gonna get a tin ASAP. Nothing has ever truly interested me at Nivea before, although I have tried the face cream for oily skin and I did not like it.
One of my nightmares is tearing a stuck mask off my face with a wet cloth and then being red and sensitive- 'Never again' is what I think after that. But not this one.
I do recomend. The price is R90, I think. These masks have been creeping up in cost. I noticed when I bought my second bottle. But this time, a different detox mask.
The 1 Minute Urban Detox Mask in 'Pore Refine'. The first thing that caught my attention was the 'Self-heating formula' written on the bottle. I have tried a formula like such in a Justine face wash- and it almost exfoliated with heat- fun! Not like burning heat, but as you rub it in, it heats up and it really feels activated. Justine is a high-end product, so this perk for the price is up my alley.
Now, this mask is actually a wash. I keep mines in the shower and I had to go fetch it to take this photo.
The mask foams slightly when you add water, but you should have a little water on your hands and face when you begin. A little tip: put the mask onto your fingertips and then rub it onto your face. Do not rub it in your hands because then it heats up on your hands. We want to preserve the heating moments for when the mask is on your face.
So, it foams slightly and once washed off, it leaves a smoothened texture on the face. Like, polished and moisturized. Please avoid your eyes- religiously. This will burn and don't get any into your mouth! It tastes more foul than a normal face wash. Not to say I go around tasting face washes. Okay, you caught me- I taste them all.
As for the texture.. Well,
No colorants, like the Moisture mask mentioned above. But I think that blue-ish hue in that one is subtle so it's okay.
If I ever have a need for a shower mask or an overnight mask- I will repurchase these. But right now, I am knee-deep in other products and I'll save these to come back to later. Both are, however, empty! :')
Okay, that's all for now. If you have a Gmail account, you can log in and leave a comment below with any more questions or requests to try products. I would love to engage with you.
With Love,
Sauda.
